As cancer cases in Thailand continue to rise, AXA Insurance Thailand is reinforcing its commitment to Risk Prevention – from early detection to financial protection – in line with World Cancer Day on 4 February.

According to the Department of Medical Services, Thailand records more than 140,000 new cancer patients each year, or approximately 400 people per day, with incidence rates continuing to increase, including among younger age groups. The five most common cancers in Thailand are liver and bile duct cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and cervical cancer —many of which can be prevented or detected early through proactive health management.
While cancer is often perceived as a life-threatening diagnosis, medical professionals emphasise that many types of cancer can be prevented, managed, or treated effectively through early detection and regular health screenings. However, beyond the health impact, one of the most significant challenges facing patients and their families is the financial burden associated with long-term cancer treatment.
Research from the ASEAN Costs in Oncology (ACTION) study found that nearly half of cancer patients in Southeast Asia experienced financial catastrophe, defined as healthcare spending exceeding 40% of household income, within one year of diagnosis. This financial risk underscores the heavy toll cancer treatment can place on families across the region.
Paweena Khemarangsan, Chief Customer Officer of AXA Insurance Thailand, said: “Cancer changes everything in a moment—but it shouldn’t mean financial ruin. We believe early detection saves lives, and financial protection preserves livelihoods. With SmartCare Cancer, Thai families get both: the peace of mind to seek early screening and the financial security to focus fully on recovery when it matters most.”
AXA SmartCare Cancer is designed to support customers from the moment of diagnosis. The plan provides an immediate lump-sum payout of up to 900,000 baht upon a cancer diagnosis and covers all types and stages of cancer, both invasive and non-invasive. This financial support allows policyholders to focus on treatment and recovery without the added stress of unexpected medical expenses.
The plan is easy to apply for, requires no health check-ups, and can be purchased online with instant coverage and policy delivery via email. In addition, cancer insurance premiums are eligible for personal income tax deductions of up to 25,000 baht, subject to the Department of Revenue’s regulations. For families, SmartCare Cancer offers free coverage for unmarried children aged 15 days to 22 years, with no limit on the number of children under a family plan.
This World Cancer Day, AXA Insurance Thailand continues to promote proactive health management and financial resilience, supporting individuals and families in protecting what matters most: their lives, their well-being, and their future.
