In Qingyang City, Gansu, a digital transformation interwoven by “yellow earth” and “computing power” is happening quietly. The farmers once toiled and moiled, as well as full-time mothers once tied to the kitchen, now have a trendy new identity – live selling “Code Farmers”.
Walk into the general training room of Qingyang Electronic Commerce Association, all seats are occupied. A public welfare lecture about AI livestreaming and intelligent e-commerce is being held here. From product selection and content planning to virtual human streaming hands-on practice, all kinds of real-deal knowledge are changing the logic of wealth on this loessland.
Through AI e-commerce hands-on training, Qingyang promotes the vendors’ usage of AI tools such as virtual streamer. Backed by the low cost and low latency computing power from Qingyang National Computing Hub of the “Eastern Data and Western Computing” Project, the AI tools run more stably at lower costs. This closed loop mode of “local computing power + AI applications + talent training”, not only takes advantage of the local computing hub, but also improves the efficiency of e-commerce operations, actualizing mutual empowerment between digital infrastructure and real economy.
Data suggests that Qingyang’s e-commerce sales of the year 2025 is 6.91 billion Yuan, in which online retailing contributes 3.271 billion, with a year-on-year growth rate of 12.7%. Since 2023, Qingyang has provided e-commerce hands-on training for more than 2,000 people in total, building a solid talent foundation for local e-commerce industry.
From “know how to farm” to “know how to stream”, from “live at the mercy of nature” to “prosper with computing power”, these newly-became “Code Farmers” are connecting the whole nation with algorithms. Through the cloud, they send local specialties out of the loessland, and into broader markets.
