The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization with a network of over 17,000 physicians, recently brought its empowering “Let’s Beat Breast Cancer” campaign to Phuket. Held at the Fun Friday Avenue Market in Boat Avenue, Cherngtalay, the weekend event was part of a global Breast Cancer Awareness Month initiative in October, highlighting how everyday nutrition and lifestyle choices can significantly lower breast cancer risk.

The campaign unites healthcare professionals, cancer survivors, and community advocates across the U.S. and worldwide to share actionable guidance on long-term wellness. In Phuket, a vibrant local marching band set an energetic tone under the theme “Beat the Drum,” inviting visitors to stop, listen, and learn about the campaign’s four key habits: eating a whole-food, plant-based diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains; staying physically active with regular exercise; maintaining a healthy weight; and limiting alcohol consumption.
Michele Wisla, a licensed Food for Life Instructor and founder of Our Conscious Kitchen, said: “We want more people to have access to clear and reliable information about cancer prevention, particularly how food and everyday habits can help reduce breast cancer risk. The Phuket rally gave us a wonderful opportunity to start this meaningful conversation with the local community. The cooking class took it a step further with hands-on guidance on selecting ingredients and preparing plant-based meals at home. We hope participants left feeling empowered to make healthy choices that fit seamlessly into their daily lives.”
Dr. Chaiyarit Jitpukdeebodintra, CEO and Founder of CTL Hospital Phuket, added: “Effective health education goes beyond nutrition; it helps people discover sustainable ways to care for themselves. This includes finding regular exercise that matches their physical condition, alongside other healthy habits. Through the ‘Let’s Beat Breast Cancer’ campaign, we want to help individuals and families adopt practical steps to lower their risk. Having healthcare professionals on-site to chat and answer questions makes this vital information much more approachable and easy to understand.”
Complementing the rally, a specialized plant-based nutrition workshop from PCRM’s Cancer Project curriculum, took place at Mrs B on Lagoon Road, Cherngtalay, Thalang, Phuket. The interactive session combined nutritional insights with live demonstrations of three delicious, plant-based recipes: Easy Bean Salad, Thai-Inspired Hummus, and Veggies in a Blanket. Participants had the opportunity to practice preparing the dishes hands-on and learn recipes for their home kitchens.
