St. George’s and Mahidol Universities Launch Dual-Degree Program for Thai Medical Students

St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, enables aspiring doctors to reduce the time required to complete their medical training through its ongoing affiliation agreement with Mahidol University International College (MUIC) on a dual-degree program.

The program spans seven years, beginning with three years (96 credits) of undergraduate study at MUIC. This is followed by four years of Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at SGU. Qualified students may choose to complete their first year of medical school either at SGU’s main campus in Grenada or at Northumbria University in the United Kingdom through SGU’s established partnership.

Upon successful completion of the first year of the MD program, students will have met the requirements for MUIC’s Bachelor of Science degree. They will then continue with the remaining three years of the MD program at SGU. This dual-degree pathway allows students to earn degrees from both MUIC and SGU, effectively shortening their overall medical education by one year.

“Our first-ever affiliation with a Thai university reflects SGU’s dedication to enhancing medical education in Thailand. This program is designed to provide Thai students with access to high-quality knowledge and valuable clinical experience which extend our shared commitment to preparing students to serve diverse populations around the world,” said Aurelie Lily Phommarack, Associate Director of International Affiliations at SGU.

Graduates from the dual degree program gain hands-on clinical experience, strong academic training, and access to a global network of alumni and medical professionals. This partnership provides Thai students with an additional pathway to pursue a medical career in an international setting.

Assistant Professor Dr. Tumnoon Charaslertrangsi, Chair of Science Division at MUIC, said: “The dual-degree program provides students with a unique opportunity to receive well-rounded global medical education. This program combines the strong academic foundation provided by MUIC with hands-on clinical training in international settings at SGU. Global exposure gained through this program enables our students to apply their knowledge and skills on an international scale, making a broader impact beyond Thailand.”
