Bangchak Group Makes Thai Energy History Again as Thailand-Produced HVO Makes Its Debut at KMITL EXPO 2026 “From Lab to Life”

As one of the key partners supporting KMITL EXPO 2026, Bangchak Group has delivered 1,000 liters of green diesel, or Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), produced in Thailand for the first time to King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL). The fuel will be used in shuttle vehicles for visitors attending the event at KMITL from 1-6 September 2026. Bangchak Group will also purchase used cooking oil generated during the event for conversion into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

KMITL EXPO 2026 will mark the first use of HVO produced in Thailand. A drop-in biofuel, HVO can be used in compatible diesel engines and existing fuel infrastructure without major modifications. It helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels and imported oil while supporting greater use of renewable feedstocks available in Thailand. The HVO supplied to KMITL is produced at the same production unit as SAF within the Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery. The unit can adjust its production process and product slate to produce fuels suited to both road and air transport, using used cooking oil as feedstock. Replacing fossil fuel with HVO can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2.58 kgCO₂e, or kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent, per liter. The 1,000 liters of HVO used in the event’s shuttle vehicles are therefore expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2.58 tCO₂e, or metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. Bangchak Group will also purchase used cooking oil from within the event through its “Fry to Fly” initiative and use it as feedstock for SAF production.

Using locally produced HVO in event shuttles while collecting used cooking oil for SAF production connects road and air transport through a circular use of resources. It brings the “From Lab to Life” concept to life by putting Thailand’s renewable feedstocks, technology, and production capabilities into practical, everyday use.

KMITL EXPO 2026 is organized by KMITL to welcome school and university students, families, and everyone interested in technology and creativity. Visitors can experience, test, and interact with research-based innovations designed for practical application across 10 innovation pavilions under the theme “From Lab to Life.” The event will take place at KMITL from 1-6 September 2026.
