The 3rd ASEAN Battery Technology Conference (ABTC) successfully concluded on 29 August 2025. Set within the eco-conscious surroundings of Phuket, the conference underscored ASEAN’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The three-day event was organized by the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association (TESTA) in collaboration with five leading battery and EV organizations across ASEAN.

This year’s conference was attended by more than 340 participants, including Mr. Samawit Supanpai, Deputy Governor of Phuket. It also welcomed a distinguished group of speakers, such as Nobel Laureate Prof. Stanley Whittingham, and Prof. Shirley Meng (University of Chicago / Argonne), along with leading institutions NCSTT (Indonesia), NanoMalaysia, and Singapore Battery Consortium.
Themed around safety, financing, and future growth, the panel discussion sessions from industry leaders and researchers covered latest scientific breakthroughs, strategies to build resilient battery supply chains, and investment in next-generation battery solutions to accelerate ASEAN’s clean energy transition. The exhibitions and networking activities also provided a platform for showcasing innovations and fostering new collaborations.
Dr. Pimpa Limthongkul, Co-founder and president of the Thailand Energy Storage Technology Association, TESTA, said, “This year’s conference has demonstrated that ASEAN is ready to lead the charge in building a sustainable battery ecosystem. With the collective will of industry, research, and government partners, we are no longer just adopters of technology, we are shaping its future.”
Dr. Sing Yang Chiam, Technical Director, Singapore Battery Consortium, ASEAN Battery Safety Network (ABSN) said, “Safety remains at the heart of innovation. As we scale up deployment, we must ensure that performance goes hand in hand with protection. The discussions here show how ASEAN can demonstrate leadership in cross border collaborations for battery safety related initiatives.”
Dr. Rezal Khairi Bin Ahmad, CEO at NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB), said, “Collaboration across borders is the real driver of progress. From circular supply chains to financing frameworks, ABTC 2025 has set an example that ASEAN’s strength lies in working together to unlock opportunities in the global battery economy.”

- Collaboration on Grid-Scale BESS Deployment in ASEAN: A partnership between Singamas Container Holdings Limited and Zhejiang Narada Power Source to scale collaboration pertaining to development and deployment of grid-level Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across ASEAN, combining advanced lithium batteries technology and integration expertise in containerized solutions to boost reliability, safety performance and grid stability.
- Strategic Alliance for Euro-Grid Infrastructure Enhancement – Establishment of the Sineuro Collaborative Platform: Bringing together Asian innovation and European expertise to co-develop intelligent application-based energy storage solutions, aiming to scale sustainable infrastructure and accelerate Europe’s clean energy transition. Parties include NextGEN Energy, Sineng Electric, Green Tenaga, Half Bridge Automation.
- Strategic Cooperation Agreement between Hytzer Energy and INV Corporation: This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishes a collaborative framework between Hytzer Energy and INV Corporation to jointly advance the development and commercialization of solid-state battery technology. The Parties aim to leverage their combined expertise and resources to drive innovation for safer battery solutions with higher capacity, fostering the “net-zero” energy transition for a sustainable future.
- NBRI and NMB – Strengthening Regional Battery Innovation:
The MoU between the National Battery Research Institute (NBRI), Indonesia, and NanoMalaysia Berhad (NMB), Malaysia, marks a strategic milestone in advancing Southeast Asia’s battery ecosystem. This partnership goes beyond a symbolic agreement by establishing a framework for cooperation in technology transfer, research and innovation, testing and standardization, as well as education and industrial training, aimed at strengthening the regional battery ecosystem and accelerating the adoption of next-generation energy solutions across ASEAN.
Key Strategic Announcements
- Launch of collaborative whitepaper on Battery Landscape and Ecosystem in ASEANAn Inaugural whitepaper, “Navigating the Battery-Related Landscape in Southeast Asia and Beyond,” jointly authored by six ASEAN entities and two contributing organisations, provides a strategic deep dive into the region’s fast-evolving battery, EV, and energy storage ecosystem offering a timely and in-depth analysis of the battery, electric vehicle (EV), and battery energy storage system (BESS) sectors across the ASEAN region and Australia.
Themes explored in the whitepaper include:
- Battery value chain and ecosystem.
- Current state and future trajectory of battery, EV, and BESS markets.
- Standards, national policies, and regulatory developments for EV and BESS deployment.
- End-of-life battery management.
- Technological capabilities and innovation.
- ABSN Strategic Partnership with ULSE in Battery Safety and Standards
ASEAN Battery Safety Network (ABSN), set up in January 2025 to enhance battery safety in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), is happy to announce UL Standards & Engagement (ULSE) as the network’s partner. As a non-profit organization that promotes a safer, more secure and sustainable world, ULSE’s know-hows and expertise, along with its strong network of experts both within and outside of their organization, will be of great benefit to ABSN in supporting the safe use and deployment of batteries in the region’s energy transition journey.

About ASEAN Battery Technology Conference
The ASEAN Battery Technology Conference (ABTC) is the region’s premier platform for advancing battery innovation, safety, and collaboration. First launched in 2023 in Bali, Indonesia, with early support from regional partners including Hioki E.E. Corporation, the conference was rebranded from ABEVTC to ABTC to reflect its strong focus on battery technologies and their critical role in ASEAN’s energy future.
Now entering its third year, ABTC has grown into more than a conference—it is a regional movement uniting industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers. A key milestone was the signing of an MOU among ASEAN battery associations in 2023, laying the foundation for long-term regional cooperation.
The 2025 edition in Phuket, Thailand, will mark the launch of the ASEAN Battery Safety Network and continue to spotlight high-impact topics such as advanced materials, pack design, recycling, and safety standards—driving the region toward a sustainable, secure battery ecosystem.
