Bangchak Group Partners with Ying Charoen Market and AssetWise Launching Thailand’s First Tech-Enabled Model Green Market

Transforming Used Cooking Oil into Clean Energy through the “Fry to Fly” Initiative

BSGF Company Limited, a Bangchak Group affiliate, signed a memorandum of understanding to promote the avoidance of refrying cooking oil and to convert used cooking oil into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) with Ying Charoen Market (operated by Suwapee Holding 2 Company Limited) and AssetWise Public Company Limited to mitigate environmental impact and promote consumer health. The ceremony was held at Ying Charoen Square Building, Bang Khen District.

Mr. Nipon Lerttassanee, Executive Vice President, Project Management, Engineering and Logistics Business, Refinery and Oil Trading Business Group, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited and BSGF Executive Committee Member, Mrs. Kanchanida Tantisunthorn, Executive Director, Ying Charoen Market, and Mr. Wut Viphanphong, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Sustainability and Grow Green, AssetWise, signed the memorandum. Honorary witnesses included Mr. Pornphrom Vikitsreth, advisor to the Governor of Bangkok, Mr. Suchart Sukcharoen, Deputy Director, Bureau of Food and Water Sanitation, Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, Gp.Capt. Kanyika Wanvimonsuk, representative of the Director of Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital, Directorate of Air Medical Services, and Mr. Ariya Tumwattana, Member of Ying Charoen Market Foundation.

Under this collaboration, BSGF, Ying Charoen Market, and AssetWise will jointly implement two key initiatives: “Fry to Fly” and “No Refry”, both initiated and operated by BSGF. The goal is to develop Ying Charoen Market into Thailand’s first model green market with a fully integrated system for managing used cooking oil, enhancing food safety standards alongside long-term sustainable environmental stewardship. Through this initiative, market vendors will be educated on proper and hygienic use of cooking oil and encouraged not to reuse it. The program also supports the measurement of oil degradation (polar compound levels). Vendors can bring their used cooking oil to designated collection points within the market and record the volume via the “AssetWise GrowGreen” digital platform, developed by AssetWise to facilitate the buying and selling of used cooking oil. In addition, the platform collects environmental data, such as the volume of greenhouse gas emissions reduced through oil recycling. The collected oil will then be transferred to BSGF for processing into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) — a clean energy that helps reduce carbon emissions in the aviation sector. This model not only ensures efficient waste management and minimizes environmental impact but also creates tangible value from waste materials.

On the same day, executives from all participating organizations joined the Fry to Fly activity, visiting food vendors within the market, testing polar compounds in cooking oil, and initiating the purchase of used cooking oil from stalls within Ying Charoen Market. These efforts aimed to foster collaboration and raise awareness among vendors within Ying Charoen Market. This collaboration highlights the role of the private sector in transforming market spaces and local communities into model “green zones” through digital data storage and tracking technology that promotes safe consumption alongside environmental care. It also serves as a tangible example of how circular economy principles can be implemented at the community level—integrating environmental, health, technological, and economic dimensions in a truly sustainable way.
