from Over 100 Countries, Celebrating Global Cultural Identities Through Thai Silk

The Tourism Authority of Thailand in collaboration with the Association of Thai Silk & Culture Promotions has launched the “Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition” bringing Thai silk together with the creative visions of international designers from over 100 countries. The project celebrates diverse cultural identities through contemporary fashion on the occasion of Thailand hosting the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, while presenting Thailand’s cultural heritage, craftsmanship and identity to an international audience.
The project is rooted in the idea of taking Thai silk beyond its traditional role and positioning it as a creative medium that connects people across cultures. The Association has sent Thai silk to its network of designers in over 100 countries, inviting them to design and produce entirely new garments that express the identities, cultures and traditions of their respective countries through Thai silk. The resulting creations reflect cultural diversity through the perspectives of designers from around the world.
Mr. Edward Kitti, Founder of the Association of Thai Silk & Culture Promotions said, “Thailand last hosted the World Bank meeting 35 years ago, and this marks another opportunity to host this major international gathering. With more than 15,000 participants from 191 countries, including members of the international media, attending the event, we see this as a significant opportunity to showcase the beauty of Thai culture, Thai traditions and Thai silk to the world.”
The concept builds on the Association’s experience organizing Thai silk activities when Thailand hosted APEC in 2022. On that occasion, the Association provided Thai silk to designers from APEC member economies, who created entirely new garments by combining Thai silk with local textiles from their respective countries to reflect each nation’s identity and culture. The creations were subsequently presented to APEC leaders and received a positive response, generating interest among leaders from several economies, particularly in seeing designers from their own countries creatively combine Thai silk with local materials and distinctive cultural elements. The experience demonstrated Thai silk’s potential as a medium for cultural exchange that connects people of different nationalities and cultures, while opening up new possibilities for Thai silk on the international fashion stage.
Mr. Edward Kitti added, “For this year’s exhibition, the Association has expanded its collaboration with designers worldwide, sending more than 500 meters of black Thai silk for the creation of contemporary garments reflecting the cultural identities of participating countries. The choice of black silk also carries special significance. The Association explained to international designers that the color was selected in connection with a period of mourning, in remembrance of the royal contributions of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, as well as Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita. participating designers to explore the origins and cultural significance of Thai silk more deeply. Beyond creating garments, the project provides a platform for learning and cultural exchange, allowing designers to engage with Thai craftsmanship, interpret its stories through their own creations and share those stories in countries around the world.”
The “Amazing Thailand Global Thai Silk Exhibition” will showcase newly designed and produced Thai silk garments by international designers from over 100 countries from October 11–18, 2026, at Siam Paragon, with the official opening ceremony taking place on Monday, October 12, 2026. The exhibition will also feature The Amazing Thailand Grand Fashion Show, a spectacular fashion showcase to be held on October 16, 2026, at Hyatt Regency Bangkok Sukhumvit, presenting the beauty of Thai silk to an international audience through the creative perspectives and cultural identities of designers from diverse cultures.
