Thailand has introduced its first stem cell bank for pets, a breakthrough aimed at extending lifespans and improving quality of life for cats and dogs. PetGeneX, in partnership with the National Innovation Agency (NIA) and Krungthai Card Public Company Limited (KTC), announced the initiative at a seminar titled ‘PetGeneX Future Health, Forever Love.’ The project reflects the global rise of ‘pet parenting,’ where pets are increasingly treated as family members. Spending data from KTC shows that cardmember expenditure on pets rose 10% year-on-year in the first eight months of 2025, exceeding 730 million baht.

Dr. Chaiyot Tanrattana, co-founder and Advisor of PetGeneX, said medical advances combined with innovation are not only about treating disease but also about helping pets live longer, healthier lives with their families. As Thailand’s first stem cell bank for pets, PetGeneX provides separation, cultivation and long-term storage of stem cells from sources such as blood, fat and umbilical cords, using biotechnology adapted to animal biology. Certified under ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016, the facility can preserve cells for up to 20 years, setting a new benchmark for sustainable pet care.
Dr. Phongsakorn Kunhorm, biotechnology researcher at Suranaree University of Technology and founder of PetGeneX, said the company’s mission is to preserve pet stem cells in the best possible condition under strict scientific and research standards. “We believe that every healthy, ready-to-use cell gives pet owners confidence and hope for the wellbeing of their companions,” he said. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been shown to regenerate and repair tissue, reduce chronic inflammation and support treatments for complex conditions such as osteoarthritis, liver or kidney failure, and neuromuscular injuries. By storing and preparing these cells for optimal use, PetGeneX aims to set a new benchmark for pet health in Thailand, bringing local standards closer to international levels.
Dr. Krithpaka Boonfueng, Executive Director of the National Innovation Agency (NIA), said the agency has evolved from a startup enabler to a systems integrator, and now acts as a focal conductor uniting collaboration across the public, private and academic sectors to advance the nation’s innovation agenda. Supporting PetGeneX, she said, is an important milestone in translating Thai research and technology into real commercial applications. “It also builds consumer confidence and highlights Thailand’s potential to foster valuable innovations that enhance sustainable health and quality of life,” she added.
Miss Sireerat Corvanich, Head of Credit Card Marketing Division at Krungthai Card Public Company Limited (KTC), said pet ownership has shifted into a lifestyle known as ‘pet parenting,’ where pets are treated as true family members. The trend is growing globally and in Thailand, with owners increasingly willing to invest in health and quality of life. Spending data from KTC cardmembers between January and August 2025 showed a 10% year-on-year increase in the pet category, with steady growth across all age groups. To support this lifestyle, KTC offers a 5% discount on all PetGeneX service packages and continues to expand partnerships to ensure that pet-related spending delivers not only joy but also long-term value for members and their four-legged companions.
