The event is honored to welcome management members, representatives of government and local agencies in Krabi province, including Mr. Rattasart Chidchoo, Governor of Krabi, Mr. Ittichai Tanbutr, Mayor of Krabi Municipality, Ms. Soraya Homchuen, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mr. Ekapong Chokchaiwitat, The Chairman of the Executive Board for the Chamber of Commerce and Ms. Wimon Nookaew, Provincial Public Relations Officer.

Mr. Ratthasart Chidchu, Governor of Krabi, said: “Krabi Province is recognized as a prototype sustainable tourism destination, with its stunning natural scenery, rich culture, and the harmonious coexistence of diverse ethnicities and religions, along with continued improvements in infrastructure. Most recently, Krabi International Airport has expanded its passenger terminal to fully connect the province to the global market. Following the opening, Central Krabi will serve as the ‘living room of the city’, welcoming visitors from around the world. This reflects the strong collaboration between the public, private, and community sectors in steadily moving Krabi forward and elevating its status as a true global destination.”

Dr. Nattakit Tangpoonsinthana, Chief Marketing Officer for Central Pattana plc, said: “Central Krabi will be Thailand’s first sustainable shopping center to achieve the international EDGE Certification – Zero Level. The project aims to reduce its carbon footprint from the construction stage, following a global shopping center development trend that supports future lifestyles. This aligns with the ‘Krabi Prototype’ vision, which aims for all sectors to promote Krabi as a sustainable tourism hub. Krabi has remarkable natural beauty, diverse cultures and lifestyles as well as unique cuisine and art, which make it a distinctive and memorable destination that is ready to welcome quality tourists from around the world. With this in mind, we have developed the Central Krabi project under the concept of ‘Made by Krabi’, which provides a space for community participation to convey local identity and reflects the needs of Krabi residents. This initiative fosters mutual pride and elevates the city to a sustainable global arena.”

“Another key strategy in attracting international tourists is to build awareness through partnerships with airlines, Telco operators, and OTAs, while also offering Tourist Privileges and Welcome Packages to create a unique experience from the very first moment of arrival. At the same time, we aim to position Krabi as a Digital Nomad Hub, leveraging its pristine beaches, fresh air, and a lifestyle that perfectly blends work and leisure. In addition, the expansion of Krabi International Airport together with Central Krabi serves as a vital component in enhancing the province’s capacity to welcome quality tourists from around the world,” added Dr. Nattakit.

Thailand’s First Sustainable-Lifestyle Shopping Center – The Pride of Krabi People

Managing resources: Sustainability through four main four topics:

  1. Energy Saving: Central Krabi targets reducing electricity consumption by over 40% and offsetting up to 100% of its carbon footprint. The semi-outdoor building design allows natural ventilation, cutting air-conditioning usage and cooling load by 15–20%. In addition, a 14,400 m² solar cell installation with a generation capacity of more than 3.2 megawatts further enhances the project’s sustainability.
  2. Waste Management: Central Krabi has joined hands with Chiang Mai University to develop a ‘Green Road’ behind the shopping center, reducing plastic waste sent to landfill by over 2.5 tons. helps cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 25.89 tons of CO₂ equivalent. A Recycle Station will also allow waste to be exchanged for money, encouraging visitors and the community to actively participate in sustainable waste management when Central Krabi officially opens.
  3. Upcycling & Creative Use of Waste: Reusing waste to create art and design, such as Eco-Art Hoardings and Art Installations using marine waste. Central Krabi’s furniture is produced from recycled plastic, shells and rice husks, reducing the use of new plastic by over 50%. Some furniture items are also made of Hybrid Cement, reducing the carbon footprint by up to 21%.
  4. Krabi Collection CSR: Collaborating with partners and communities to create shared value such as Sabina and Good Goods, using recycled sea fishing nets to produce eco-friendly fashion clothing, while Hug Craft offers products from the eco-friendly collection. The Ban Nai Nang community takes part in the management of fishing net waste to reduce marine waste and generate local income.

In addition, Central Krabi is also supporting the waterworks pumping station installation and renovation project, with a budget of approximately 10 million baht, which covers the construction of a pumping station, the installation of a pressure booster pump with equipment, a transformer and a water distribution system to improve water distribution efficiency to meet the needs in the area.

Central Krabi is designed with landscape architecture that respects nature and the city’s scenery, avoiding high-rise buildings that block the view and instead blending harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. Inspired by Krabi’s unique identity, each building is shaped to resemble small islands scattered across the sea. The decorative ceilings feature flowing lines that echo palm leaves, creating a shady atmosphere as if walking through a palm grove, while the curved, cascading rooflines are reminiscent of Krabi’s iconic long-tail boats lined along the shore. Billboards and media displays are carefully designed to blend with the natural surroundings. A highlight of the project is the introduction of the ‘Poo Dam’ black crab mascot, symbolizing Krabi’s abundance, with the public invited to participate in naming the mascot to celebrate this unique local identity.

Tourist Destination Hub

Krabi has the potential to become the “Tourism Powerhouse of the Andaman”, a quality destination ranked among the top five tourism revenue generators in Thailand (excluding Bangkok) — following Phuket, Chonburi, Surat Thani, and Chiang Mai — and among the top three in the South. The Tourism Authority of Thailand projects that by 2025, Krabi’s tourism revenue will reach 100 billion baht, after welcoming over 6.3 million visitors in 2024, the majority being high-quality tourists from Europe, Malaysia, India, and Singapore. Many travelers from Sweden and Denmark prefer long stays, with some working as digital nomads in line with modern global tourism trends.

Krabi has also earned global recognition, with Maya Bay ranked among the world’s most beautiful beaches* and as a famous Hollywood film location, featured in blockbusters such as The Beach, Fast & Furious 9, and Jurassic World. Beyond natural beauty, Krabi boasts a rich cultural heritage — from ancient beads in Khlong Thom and wooden boat carvings, to batik fabric and traditional southern performances such as Nora, Rong Ngeng, and the Chao Lay boat-floating ritual. These cultural treasures have been developed into a form of “soft power” that continues to attract quality tourists from around the world.

Central Krabi also brings together must-have souvenirs and local specialties alongside renowned brands such as Hug Craft, Good Goods, and Jim Thompson.
