The Alumni Association of the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University Collaborate with 21 Artists in Historic Fundraising Drive, Thais Invited to Purchase Artworks for Production of Docudrama Directed by Marco Gatti
The Alumni Association of the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University joins hands with a group of artists and an independent filmmaker from Italy to present contemporary works by guest artists. Their initiative also invites the public to buy these artworks in order to raise funds for the completion of the docudrama The Empire of Harmony, which pays tribute to the master who laid the foundations of modern Thai art.
Directed by Italian filmmaker Marco Gatti, The Empire of Harmony will be an 80-minute docudrama about “the artistic realm where East and West, old Siam and new Thai, converge”. It tells the story of a half-Thai, half-Italian woman who journeys from Tuscany to Bangkok in search of a deeper harmony between life and art—tracing a path that begins with the dome frescoes painted by Galileo Chini for the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall over a century ago, through the masterworks of Prince Naris, the “Great Craftsman of Siam” and a royal artist who served five reigns, to the legacy of Silpa Bhirasri (Professor Corrado Feroci), the Florentine sculptor who laid the foundation of modern Thai art—ultimately arriving at the rhythms and realities of contemporary artists today.
The fundraising event will feature a screening of the docudrama film’s teaser, followed by a discussion with the director and producer on the concepts behind the project. The initiative will be introduced by National Artist Amrit Chusuwan, top Thai film director Nonzee Nimibutr, and Tharatip Natteesri, the president of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts.
The highlight of the event is the sale of artworks by 21 leading Thai artists, which will raise funds for the completion of the docudrama. Participating artists include Inson Wongsam, Amrit Chusuwan, Somwong Tupparat, Sompop Budtarad, Sakwut Wisesmanee, Jitsing Somboon, Roengsak Boonyawanichkul, Prasong Luemuang, Wijit Apichatkriengkrai, Thongchai Srisukprasert, Watchara Prayoonkum, Chalit Nakpawan, Chalong Boonchantuk, Sittichai Pratchayaratikun, Sutee Kunavichayanont, Noppera Bosri, Pornchai Chaima, Pairoj Wangbon, Prasit Wichaya, and Sakchai Uthitho.
Enthusiasts are welcome to attend the screening of The Empire of Harmony teaser, share perspectives, engage in dialogue with the director and featured artists, and support artworks to help raise funds for the completion of this docudrama, a historic piece in the field of contemporary art. This fundraising event will be held on Thursday 28 August 2025 between 3pm and 7pm at the Multipurpose Hall, 1st Floor, the Bangkok Art & Culture Center (BACC).
