Bumrungrad International has been named as a recipient of the 2008 AMDIS Award, recognizing excellence and outstanding achievement in applied medical informatics. It is the only hospital outside the US to receive the award this year.
The award is presented by the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS), a non-profit organization representing over 1,800 physician leaders with a high level of interest and responsibility for information technology in their organizations.
Award recipients were honored at the 17th annual Physician Computer Connection Symposium July 15-18 in Ojai, California, and in Modern Healthcare/Modern Physician magazines.
The award is for excellence in the field of applied medical informatics and for improving the practice of medicine through successful use of information technology by physicians. Physicians are taking on a much greater role in acquiring, installing and supervising the use of information technology. AMDIS awards honor individuals and/or organizations who have successfully applied information systems and computer technology into their practice of medicine.
In 2007 Bumrungrad partnered with Microsoft to install a state-of-the-art, fully integrated, single solution hospital information system which improves patient care by giving clinicians quick and complete access to information within and across different departments. The system, Amalga HIS, was developed in Thailand is now recognized worldwide for providing hospitals across international markets with a new alternative to achieve improved workflow and patient safety through information technology.
During the past year, Bumrungrad International hospital has treated more than a million patients. About 40% were international patients, coming to Thailand from nearly every country in the world. “Half of the 3,200 patients we see each day arrive without appointments”, said Mack Banner, Bumrungrad’s CEO. “The hospital information system allows us to manage schedule demands, multiple languages, medical records, billing, and regulatory compliance so efficiently that the average wait to see a doctor is only 17 minutes.” Mr. Banner added, “This award recognizes achievement by both our hospital, and Thailand, where the system was developed, first implemented, and proven.”
Microsoft continues to work closely with Bumrungrad as a joint development partner to further expand the functionality and features of the Amalga system.
