The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) joined hands with the public and private sectors in Songkhla province to hold “SET in the City @ Hat Yai,” an event to promote saving and investment under the concept “Increasing value to your savings, increasing your investment money.” The event aims at building effective personal finance management skills that match each person’s lifestyle, thus building confidence and boosting interest in economy. Deputy Prime Minister Trairong Suwannakhiri will also give a speech on “Look at the Thai economy, look at the Southern economy.” The event will be held on March 13 at PSU International Convention Center, Prince of Songkla University.
“SET, in cooperation with Songkhla provincial administration, Songkhla Chamber of Commerce, The Federation of Thai Industries, and Hat Yai Financial Institutes Club will hold “SET in the City” event to build and foster a saving culture, financial management, and knowledge of investment alternatives suitable for the lifestyle of people in each region,” revealed SET Chief Marketing Officer, Issuer & Listing Vichate Tantiwanich.
As a center of business in the South, Songkhla has high potential in every aspect, namely, agriculture, industry, tourism, trade and investment, including the potential of investment. Songkhla’s saving base is the highest in the South. As of end-January 2010, there was over THB97.00 billion (approx. USD2.97 billion) of savings, while trading value was ranked at the second highest in the country after Bangkok and its nearby provinces. There are over 20 branches of securities firms in Songkhla. Moreover, five SET listed firms are located in Songkhla.
“SET in the City @ Hat Yai is one of activities that supports SET’s plan to increase its liquidity for the year 2010. It will help investors and others better understand SET financial products and products that will be launched this year, increasing investment opportunities and risk management tools for investors,” said Mr. Vichate.
In the event, Deputy Prime Minister Trairong Suwannakhiri will give a speech on “Look at the Thai economy, look at the Southern economy.” There will also be talks about the economy and investment everyday. Moreover, participants can get free advice on investment and financial products including equities, bonds, mutual funds, and futures from securities firms, asset management companies, gold-related agents, Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand (AFET), Thailand Futures Exchange PCL (TFEX) and SET, or from over 20 institutions.
