OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE BOLD AT UTAGE THE ATHENEE HOTEL, A LUXURY COLLECTION HOTEL, BANGKOK

           The winds of change are blowing breezily but sensitively through Utage, the Japanese restaurant on floor 3 at The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok. 
          The comfortably streamlined Utage's new a la carte menu keeps all the familiar favourites while adding new signature dishes and other creations true to the essential principles of authenticity, seasonality, prime quality and freshness. 
          Where to start from so many mouth-watering choices? With appetizers from simple "squid with fermented soy beans" to flavorsome "deep-fried bean curd/tempura sauce". And from prime "Matsuzaka beef sirloin teppanyaki" to premium "tuna belly", "shima mackerel", and "Japanese sweet shrimp." And which shabu shabu style to choose from Wagyu beef and Kurobuta pork?
          Or how about Japanese rice topped with deep-fried pork cutlet served with miso soup and pickled vegetables? Or topped with grilled eel?
          One bowl wonders include "chilled buckwheat noodles with dashi". California roll selections include "crab meat, avocado, shrimp and ebiko roll". Or tuck into savory "Matsuzaka beef maki, grilled eel and foie gras roll with garlic jelly. Then there's "deep-fried soft shell crab", "grilled Japanese cod fish/miso sauce" and "Grilled yellow tail cheek with salt."
          One thing's for sure: at Utage, subtly detailed modern design hosts Japanese cuisine inspired by nature, the seasons and tradition.
