The 55th Asia-Pacific Film Festival Awards Announces Nominee List

          The 55th Asia-Pacific Film Festival Organizing Committee held a press conference at Four Seasons Hotel Macao on November 28th, 2012, announcing the festival’s list of award nominees for the first time. The list will be assessed by the juries of the 55th Asia-Pacific Film Festival through two rounds of voting. 30 films from 22 member regions will contend for the final awards in this year’s festival, with the theme “The New Starting Line”. The award ceremony will be held on December 15th, 2012 at The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel, the festival’s Grand Sponsor.

          “The Venetian Macao is proud to bring Asia-Pacific’s most award-worthy films to Macao as Grand Sponsor of the 55th Asia-Pacific Film Festival, next month, from December 14th to 16th,” said Mr. David Sisk, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Sands China Ltd. “The Venetian Macao is the leader in hosting Macao’s best entertainment and cultural events. This year’s APFF will bring Macao closer to the goal of becoming the region’s number one destination – for tourism, leisure, business, entertainment and cultural events.”

          Ms. Isabel Azedo Augusto, Tourism Product Division Head of the Macau Government Tourist Office and Mr. Leong Ieng Va, representative from the Department For the Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government, expressed the full support of the Macao government to the 55th APFF. Ms. Augusto and Mr. Leong announced the festival’s finalists together with Executive Chairman Eric Tsang of the 55th APFF Organizing Committee and jury representative Carina Lau.

          The 55th APFF is jointly organized by the 55th APFF Organizing Committee and Film Mall Limited, and co-organized by Macau Video & Arts Association, the Foundation of Chinese Culture and Education, the Federation of Motion Film Producers of Hong Kong Limited, Golden Scene Company Limited and A Stars World Limited. The 55th APFF is supported by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao S.A.R. Government and the Macau Government Tourist Office, and has The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel as this year’s Grand Sponsor. The organizers also invited representatives from sponsors like McLaren Hong Kong and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars to join Wednesday’s award nominee announcement. 

          The nomination list includes several blockbuster films, and is bound to make for an exciting award ceremony. Nominated for best actor are Lee Byung-hun, Lau Ching Wan, Eddie Garcia, Joseph Chang, Masato Sakai and Tony Leung Kar Fai; best actresses nominations are Song Jia, Gwei Lun Mei, Im Soo-jung, Prisia Nasution, Nora Aunor and Vidya Balan. Winners will be announced on December 15th, 2012 at the award ceremony for the 55th Asia-Pacific Film Festival at The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel.
