FedEx guides children on ‘protect and preserve your environment’ barge trip along the Chao Phraya River

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, recently gave more than 60 youngsters the chance to learn how they can play their part in preserving the environment whilst enjoying an educational barge trip on the Chao Phraya River.

A total of three barge trips took place on 5, 6 and 12 February 2011, organized in conjunction with the Prem Center `Magic Eyes' Barge Program which aims to educate children about preservation of the urban environment in Thailand.

Each trip was attended by around twenty 10-13 year old students from underprivileged backgrounds. The students attend three schools in Bangkok and Nonthaburi: Wat Thevarajkunchorn school, Wat Bang Krai Nok school and Wat Song Plu school. Volunteer employees from FedEx together with experienced environmental educators conducted various activities including visits to communities living on the river and wastewater management facilities.

The FedEx employees also hosted a lunch on the barge for the students and teachers in addition to donating gifts, equipment and materials to the schools.

“All of us at FedEx Thailand are excited about the opportunity to work with Magic Eyes and help these children learn how their own actions have an impact on the environment and what they can do to take care of their surroundings for the future,” said David Carden, managing director of FedEx Express Thailand and Indochina.

“FedEx is a global express transportation company that connects the world. However, we also take our environmental responsibilities seriously and we are proud to support community activities such as this and to encourage the spirit of volunteerism amongst our employees,” concluded Mr Carden.
